Gates of Olympus 1000 is the second generation of Pragmatic Play’s biggest hit. It landed in 2023, two years after the original, and at a glance it looks identical: Zeus, the same 6×5 grid, the same scatter pays system where eight or more matching symbols anywhere on screen pay, the same tumble mechanic. Everything that changed sits at the top of the paytable — multiplier orbs now reach 1000×, and the max win jumps from 5000× to 15000× your bet.

Is Gates of Olympus 1000 worth playing?

It depends on what you want, and the honest answer isn’t “yes” for everyone.

It’s for you if you already play the original, know its rhythm, and want the same game with more headroom. The default RTP stays at 96.5%, which means Pragmatic didn’t charge for the extra potential in RTP — it charged in variance. If chasing the full-screen hit is what you’re here for, this version gives you three times the room.

It’s not for you if your bankroll is tight or you want predictable sessions. Most spins here pay nothing, and most of the ones that pay, pay little. The money is concentrated in rare moments. What actually changed from the original

Very little on the surface, quite a lot in the maths. Symbols, grid, tumbles and free-spin structure are all recognisable. The difference is in how multipliers are distributed: to double the top orb value while keeping RTP the same, Pragmatic had to take weight out of other parts of the game. In practice that means mid-sized wins come around less often, and the bonus round carries even more of the total return.

Scatter pays and tumbles

There are no paylines. Land 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid and you win. Those symbols vanish, the ones above drop down, new ones fill the gaps — and the tumble keeps going as long as new combinations keep forming. A single paid spin can chain several wins before it settles.

Zeus’s orbs and how they stack in free spins

This is where the game lives. At any point, including in the base game, Zeus can drop multiplier orbs. In the base game an orb applies to the win from that tumble sequence. In free spins the rules change: multipliers accumulate into a running global total that applies to every win that follows. It’s the sum of those orbs — not the symbol values — that builds the big prizes.

Ante-bet and bonus buy

The 1000 build lets you pay more per spin to raise your chance of triggering free spins, and some casinos offer a direct bonus buy. Neither improves the default RTP. The short version: the original is still the sensible entry point to the genre — same RTP, less punishment. The 1000 build only makes sense if headroom is the thing the original was missing for you, and you’re willing to pay for it in dry sessions. Bankroll tips
